ABOUT OUR STUDIO

Design Cell’s work carries the perspective of a practice that has grown through multiple generations of projects, environmental thinking, and urban change, allowing us to design with foresight, restraint, and confidence.

Over nearly four decades, the firm has worked across major public landscapes, infrastructure-led developments, campuses, hospitality environments, and urban public spaces. Through this long arc of practice, we have navigated shifting environmental realities, regulatory frameworks, and design paradigms, learning from built outcomes and adapting our approach in response to evolving ecological and social needs. Rather than being defined by longevity alone, Design Cell is defined by the depth of insight that comes from working through complexity and remaining open to change.

At the core of the practice is a long-standing commitment to landscape as both an ecological and civic system, capable of shaping climate response, water management, biodiversity, public movement, and collective experience. We view landscape not as surface treatment, but as critical infrastructure: performative, resilient, and deeply tied to place. This thinking has informed work on airports, universities, urban forests, waterfronts, institutional campuses, and city-scale frameworks, where environmental systems and public life are conceived as interdependent. In hospitality settings, this translates into landscapes that foreground experience through climate, materiality, and ecology, creating environments that are immersive, grounded, and enduring.

As the practice looks forward, Design Cell is consciously aligning its work with larger questions of stewardship, resilience, and long-term impact. We are increasingly engaged in research-led processes, evidence-based decision-making, and collaborative approaches that extend the role of design beyond delivery toward advocacy, knowledge-building, and strategic thinking.

Today, Design Cell’s strength lies in its intergenerational and interdisciplinary team. Senior practitioners bring decades of on-ground expertise in large-scale delivery, native planting systems, ecological restoration, and institutional projects, offering continuity, judgement, and deep contextual understanding. Alongside them, a new generation of designers contributes advanced academic training, global professional experience, and emerging practices in climate resilience, coastal adaptation, public engagement, and data-informed urban design. This exchange between experience and experimentation is central to how the studio learns, evolves, and stays relevant.

This breadth allows Design Cell to remain both grounded and future-facing, drawing strength from accumulated knowledge while actively expanding the scope of what landscape, urban design, and planning can contribute to contemporary society.

Rooted in experience and driven by inquiry, Design Cell continues to evolve, engaging complex challenges with responsibility, intelligence, and a long-term commitment to the environments and communities we serve.

Collectively, the practice brings expertise across:

01

Sustainable landscapes with long-term ecological performance

02

Hospitality landscapes crafted as immersive, place-based environments rooted in ecology and materiality

03

Native planting, biodiversity enhancement, and habitat-led landscapes

04

Research-driven master planning and urban frameworks

05

Climate resilience, coastal systems, and flood-adaptive design
